It was a hot month of July 2006, when the Saadiyat cultural district in Abu Dhabi was declared as an urban planning project, focused as a performing arts hub and four museums. The Louvre’s name was not heard then. Guggenheim’s was supposed to be the main draw, and the more discussed subject of discussion.
The Architect Jean Nouvel was entrusted with the design of conventional museum. The discussion with Louvre had begun in 2005, but nothing was announced to be final.
Ten years later the conventional art museum with Louvre’s legacy is expected to be open in 2017. It will be a big step ahead for the U.A.E in the art world, and its global recognition. With one of finest museums in the world gracing the pristine islands of Saadiyat ( which means happiness in Arabic ), Abu Dhabi will galvanize the interest in arts to a new level in the whole region, resulting in attracting substantial art related tourism.
